DTA understands the importance of maintaining a fiscally responsible budget that puts students first
Members have spoken loudly and recommitted themselves to ensuring that every student has the supports they need to succeed. Here’s the truth:
Your DTA leaders have thoroughly analyzed the Dublin Unified School District Budget including actual expenditures and revenues for the past 5 years. As was the case in each of the previous years’ negotiations, this analysis shows that management can afford much more than their current offer of zero.
DTA leaders have presented our Revenue Enhancement Plan, a part of our Justice For All Students campaign, to DUSD management, which gives a step by step solution to fund all DTA negotiations proposals.
Our members have said that to keep the best educators, we must keep up with the cost of living, secure improvements in health care and reduce caseloads and class sizes. These three areas of improvement will ensure that our students have the best educators and best learning environments.
More specific details on the ways DTA’s proposals are fiscally responsible:
Over $4.1 million dollars from the state lottery went unspent last year (24/25). Those funds could easily cover the costs of an additional 3.5% on the salary schedule.
District management moved funds out of the unrestricted fund into restricted funds. According to their own policy, they should be using restricted money before dipping into unrestricted funds. That unrestricted money could be used to fund increased benefits proposals.
The actual cost of the proposed reductions in class size can be covered by the excess in the unrestricted reserves.
The initial proposals can also be funded by DTA’s Revenue Enhancement plans, which have been shared with management multiple times over the past couple of years. Management has repeatedly rejected suggestions to enhance revenue.
Over the last 8 years, Dublin Unified School District has received an increase of 36.88% in ongoing state per-pupil funding. The cost of living has increased by 26.71%, but sadly our member’s salary schedule has only increased 23.625%.
DTA understands that a strong budget is integral to maintaining the supports and services our students need to thrive. We thank the Dublin community for the continued support of educators and we will continue doing all we can to secure the best for students.
